Some Days
Some days I can be the mother I want to be.
Some days I can listen to an entire twenty-minute story about the video game level that was finally beat and ask the right questions.
Some days I can give one more hug, tell one more story, get the glass of water, check under the bed, find the lost teddy, give one more hug, and still smile and enjoy the third one-more-hug as we say goodnight.
Some days I remember the right name for the friend from the story told two months before. I remember the YouTuber who’s cool, the not-lame singer. I remember to not dab and call things “lit”.
Some days I don’t snap “just brush your teeth” when there has been ten minutes of dancing happening in the bathroom mirror.
And only on some days do I remember the field trip form, the special lunch, the right colour cup, the socks without seams, to change the laundry over, to not burn dinner.
And on some days I can remember the teddy bear’s name, the stuffed dog’s name, the toy dragon’s name, the car’s name, and all the Lego men’s names, even if I forget
my own name.
But every day I hope that it will be enough, that one day we will look back and remember the some days.
