Marge Piercy selected Rachel Hall’s Heirlooms for the G.S.Sharat Chandra Book Prize. BkMk Press at the University of Missouri-Kansas City published the linked collection in September 2016. Heirlooms begins in France in 1940 and follows a French Jewish family through the war and to America. It examines love and duty and the long reach of history.
Joan Leotta: My new book, Summer in a Bowl, is out! This book tells of Rosa’s introduction to gardening and enjoyment of fresh vegetables by her Aunt Mary. When Rosa expresses sadness that summer has come to an end, Aunt Mary explains that the soup they made together is Summer in A Bowl. Includes activities to encourage gardening and Aunt Mary’s recipe.
The Best Small Fictions 2016, guest edited by Stuart Dybek, was released on Sept. 6. It is a NewPages Editor’s Pick and an Amazon Hot New Release.Tara L. Masih, a past contributor, is series editor. Amy Hempel will guest edit 2017, to be published by Braddock Avenue Books.
